Read the excerpt below and answer the question.

Read this excerpt from Aunt Imogen."

They went together into the old room

That looked across the fields; and Imogen

Gazed out with a girl's gladness in her eyes, 40

Happy to know that she was back once more

Where there were those who knew her, and at last

Had gloriously got away again

From cabs and clattered asphalt for a while;

Imogen says in lines 41-42 that she is happy to be back with "those who knew her." Use evidence from

the poem to explain whether people really know Imogen and what it means in the poem to know

someone or know oneself. Your response should be at least one hundred words.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer and Explanation:

From reading the poem, we can see that people know a version of Aunt Imogen, the younger version of her, full of dreams and plans. However, the lack of coexistence and the loss of contact between the family, meant that they did not follow the changes that Aunt Imogen went through, which turned her into someone else, who no one knows anymore, just herself. Aunt Imogen's family knew her as someone happy and excited and they believe she remains that way, but inside herself, Aunt Imogen knows how sad, frustrated and lonely she feels. Only she knows this thought and only she knows herself completely.

In this case, the poem reinforces the idea that knowing someone does not mean knowing that person for real, as we do not have access to the deepest and most personal thoughts that transform a person completely. We only really know ourselves, because we can't get away from what we think.

We can see this in the lines:

"Was there for only one month in the year,/ While she, the mother,—she was always there;/ And that was what made all the difference./ She knew it must be so, for Jane had once/ Expounded it to her so learnedly/ That she had looked away from the child’s eyes / And thought; and she had thought of many things."

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached we can say the following.

A well-designed product makes our lives easier because it allowed us to use a product in comfort and useful way to maximize its benefits.

A well-designed product is created to be ahead of the competition and is a true mark of an innovative company.

All new ideas can be converted into products that could be marketed and sell for reasonable prices. For that to happen, smart people have to create attractive, innovative, and easy-to-use products that could be openly accepted by different segments.

For instance, different pieces of furniture that we can buy in wholesale stores such as Home Depot or Ikea. This furniture makes people's life easier.  Another example could be personal medical devices that allow people to monitor their health in a discrete way.

This text is an excerpt from "True West" written by Sam Shepard, where we read about the dispute between two brothers. Those brothers are Lee and Austin and they're competing over who can write the best Western theater play.

In the excerpt shown above, Lee is claiming that he can write about the real western, escaping the stereotyped myth that western theater plays present. That's because Lee has lived in the Wild West and knows what he was really like, so he believes he can write a much better play, real and full of success.

what structural decision does a translator make when translating an original text?

Answers

Answer:

Sentence length

Explanation:

When translating a text from one language to another, the intent is to pass a message from one language to another while still maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the original message. Therefore, the very integral aspects of the text such as suspense and tension, climax, and character development must be conveyed accurately.

However, all of these can still be achieved in the new language which might communicate the same message in fewer words, thus resulting in reduced sentence length. Therefore, sentence length is a structural decision that can be made by a translator.

What is a narration?

Narration is the use of a written or spoken commentary to convey a story to an audience. Narration is conveyed by a narrator: a specific person, or unspecified literary voice, developed by the creator of the story to deliver information to the audience, particularly about the plot: the series of events.

Narration is a required element of all written stories (novels, short stories, poems, memoirs, etc.), presenting the story in its entirety. However, narration is merely optional in most other storytelling formats, such as films, plays, television shows, and video games, in which the story can be conveyed through other means, like dialogue between characters or visual action.

The exquisite old painting hanging slightly crooked over the mantelpiece commanded our attention.

Which part of the sentence is a prepositional phrase?

exquisite old painting
hanging slightly crooked
over the mantelpiece
commanded our attention

Answers

Answer:

Over the mantelpiece.

Explanation:

It tells where the painting is hanging, its position. So, this is the prepositional phrase.

The exquisite old painting hanging slightly crooked over the mantelpiece commanded our attention. In this sentence, the prepositional phrase is "over the mantelpiece". The correct option is C.

How do you identify a prepositional phrase?

A prepositional phrase has the preposition at the beginning and the object at the end. A prepositional phrase's object can be a noun, pronoun, or gerund. The woman is descending the stairs. In this sentence, the object is the stairs, and the preposition is down.

Words that come before prepositional sentences are called prepositions. A prepositional phrase is a collection of words that includes the preposition, the noun or pronoun it modifies, and any modifiers of that item. A preposition is "pre-positioned" before its object, placing it in front of it.

Thus, the ideal selection is option C.

The gorilla at the zoo, along with the chimpanzee, are allowed to play in the new fallen snow. Correct the error in subject-verb agreement in this sentence.

Answers

Answer:

When we correct the subject-verb agreement, we have:

- The gorilla at the zoo, along with the chimpanzee, is allowed to play in the new fallen snow.

Explanation:

It may seem that the subject of the original sentence is plural, but it is actually singular. The verb only refers to the gorilla. The chimpanzee is mentioned in an appositive phrase, which just adds extra information to the sentence.

If we want to use the verb "are", we should remove the appositive phrase and place "chimpanzee" in the same subject as "gorilla":

- The gorilla and the chimpanzee at the zoo are allowed to play in the new fallen snow.

However, since that is not the case, the correct sentence with the original structure is:

- The gorilla at the zoo, along with the chimpanzee, is allowed to play in the new fallen snow.
