Compare and contrast the relationship that the Bundrens have with their neighbors with the way most people interact with their neighbors in modern times. In an argumentative essay of roughly 300 words, discuss which way of interacting with your neighbors is preferable and why you believe this to be so. Use evidence from the text and your own personal experiences to support your answer.
The story "As I Lay Dying," is a novel by William Faulkner. The Bundren family has isolated themselves from the community, and the novel depicts the difficulty of the family's journey to bury their matriarch, Addie, amidst this isolation.
By comparing this to our current world. we can see people maintain different ways of interacting with their neighbors.
Modern society consists of the importance of the community and neighbors are considered as valuable sources for support and friendship.
In contrast to the Bundren's, many people today interact with their neighbors regularly.
They will attend community events and participate in neighborhood programs and take time to chat with their neighbors through walks or walking in their yards.
In my opinion, this modern way of interacting with neighbors is preferable.
Building a sense of community and connection with the people around us can benefit us in many ways even studies have shown that people who have a strong social connection are happier and healthier than those who don't also having good relations with their neighbors can help people feel safer and more secure and it's important to note that modern societies has its challenges when it comes to interactions with neighbors in some neighborhoods people may be too busy or too focused on their works and never make an effort to know their neighbors.
in other cases, social media and other technology also create a false sense of connection that can be difficult to build real relationships with those around us.
Overall making an effort to interact with our neighbors positively is a better approach well it takes some effort and time to build the relationships but it will be beneficial to us. Working together and building a sense of community and connection can create a happier healthier and more uh secure world for ourselves and those around us.

In the poem "Crossing the Bar," the speaker confronts the fact that they are going to die soon and discovers some serenity in that thinking. Instead than being frightened by death, the speaker frames it as merely a passage into a different sort of existence more specifically, the Christian afterlife.
Accepting death is the primary theme of "Crossing the Bar." Death is a natural transition. We are born, live, and die, and this life is only a small portion of the grand cycle of the cosmos. Our physical birth and physical death are merely the start and finish of a very long journey.
The dividing line between life and death is symbolized in this poem by Tennyson as a sandbar. Tennyson referred to this sound as "the moaning of the bar" because waves must crash against a sandbar in order to reach the shore.
In the allegory "Crossing the Bar," the line separating life and death is represented by the "bar." According to the poet, dying is good. He accepts death stoically and wishes there would be "no moaning of the bar" when he passes.

Summarize the text below.
The role of women in society is gradually taking its rightful place not only in urban areas but in rural areas as well. Women in Africa have always assumed an important role in villages and communities. They have been in the forefront of food security, bio-diversity and various other aspects of the household. In apartheid South Africa for example, women lived without their men who were migrant workers in the mines. In the absence of the men the women became managers of their households. In this chapter we explore why the education leadership curriculum should explore deeper as to why the role of women in African societies can enhance organisations. The curriculum in many programmes teaches management and leadership by merely looking at ‘male modes of leadership’. Yet, femininity and the role of women have much to teach students of management and leadership. African history has given us accounts of great women leaders who led with distinction, for example, MaNthantisi during the rise of the Zulu kingdom. Then there was the Ghanaian Queen Mother Yaa Asantwa who led and protected her chiefdom against British Colonialists. The Empress Uelete Rutael from Ethiopia was also a strong leader in her own right. There are various other examples that show that women in Africa have the ability to lead with distinction. However, many have argued that due to their ‘biology’ women cannot be good leaders. Yet the African Women Leaders’ website declares: Another excuse used against the participation of women in leadership is the fact that they are usually sensitive and emotional and as such would not be able to perform to the best of their ability in stressful situations. True, women are usually very emotional. But does this necessarily have to be a bad thing? The empathy that women feel for people and situations make them better able to understand the people they are leading.
This chapter explores some of these debates, for it is unthinkable to ignore these aspects of womanhood in leadership. Women in Africa have had various roles that show them enhancing their communities.
Leadership: What’s gender got to do with it?
There is much literature that has highlighted how barriers or obstacles stifle women leaders in organisations. Aspects such as education are among factors that suppress women aspiring to go up the leadership ladder. Although there are instances in traditional society where women are perceived unequal to men, they are crucial in ensuring a working society. Afasi underscores the key role that African women play in the education of children as well as the transmission of moral values. Furthermore, Afasi points out that in traditional African societies the ‘woman possessed the power that binds the society together’. Afasi argues that colonialism was the root of gender equality in Africa. During colonialism, women’s complementary role to man changed to that of women subordination. When African cultures met the Europeans cultures they came into contact with cultures where men were more powerful and dominant in social structures. Afasi also succinctly captures how colonialism demeaned the roles of women: [T]he face of African society on gender equality changed owing to the influence of colonialism. Women began to suffer oppression from men. The shackles imposed by law, custom, religion and attitudes forced women to play the second fiddle. In fact, women mostly remained relegated to the last rung of the social and political ladder. Women no longer were giving the opportunity to exercise any power except those supervised by men. Chukwu contends that although the traditional society was patriarchal, there were gender specific roles which complemented male roles. As pointed out above, colonialism and Western ways destroyed the traditional power of the African woman. The Western schools that were introduced and the type of work offered altered the role of women in African societies. Sharma contends that in traditional society women had an active role in sustaining the family. This author also points out that it had been suggested recently that women were inventors of agriculture. In the pre-colonial era, communities were mainly agricultural in which women played a crucial role. As people closer to the earth, various ceremonies and rituals in Africa needed the woman’s role. Linked to Mother Nature, women were instrumental in growing and nurturing communities. There are many researchers who demonstrate opposition to African traditional societies for demeaning the role of women. Coetzee writes about traditional African women who are forced to be passive and submissive in marriage. Whilst Nyanhoyo writes about how African societies are biased against women as they are gender insensitive. Such researchers overlook the damage done by Western influences in post-colonial African villages.
This text discusses the evolving role of women in African society, emphasizing their historical importance in villages and communities. It argues for the inclusion of women's perspectives in leadership curricula, highlighting the unique contributions they can make. The impact of colonialism is explored, noting how it changed traditional power dynamics and subordinated women. The text acknowledges opposing viewpoints but argues that Western influences further marginalized women in post-colonial African villages. It concludes by emphasizing the need to recognize and explore women's contributions in leadership for a functioning society.

No one can conceive the variety of feelings which bore me onwards, like a hurricane, in the first enthusiasm of success. Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which what is the best passage analysis for this?
"I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world. A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should deserve their’s. Pursuing these reflections, I thought, that if I could bestow animation upon lifeless matter, I might in process of time (although I now found it impossible) renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption."
The protagonist, Dr. Frankenstein, is quoted in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. He is narrating how alchemy drove him over the accepted bounds of human nature, causing him to become so enraged that he created his monster.
As Frankenstein attempts to use science to transcend the earthly bounds of life and death, it is a typical example of the "overreacher". The fact that Frankenstein does this almost naively, human believing that he is doing good, rather than with malicious motives, must also be recognized.
The pervasive they may be in existential reflection by Frankenstein, are merely abstract ideas that need to be reconsidered in order to find some kind of palliative. For this indescribable and frequently incomprehensible existence that we are given, even though we are unaware of its meaning or purpose.
Thus, The protagonist, Dr. Frankenstein, is quoted in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein.

Select the correct text in the passage. Which word in the passage means "come into opposition"? The Thames Tunnel Marc Brunel was a mechanical engineer who lived in London, England, in the 1800s. In 1818, Brunel began considering a new business idea—a tunnel under the Thames River. No tunnel had ever been built successfully under a river. A Thames tunnel had been attempted in 1801 and again in 1807, but the river had broken in and flooded the works both times. Brunel knew that a tunnel connecting the shipping docks in East London to the warehouses and factories of South London across the river would be good for business. Because London Bridge was two miles west of the docks, thousands of carts and wagons had to travel hours out of their way each day to reach South London. A bridge could not be built in that area because it wouldinterferewith shipping traffic. Brunel also knew that tunnel-digging was a big challenge—the work was dangerous due to the tendency of a tunnel's open face tocollapseas the digging advanced. One day while Brunel was walking about the dockyards, he had a brilliant idea. He noticed a scrap piece of oak timber that had been the keel of a ship. It was full of wormholes that looked like miniature tunnels. The sides of these cavities were covered with a hard white substance that looked like concrete. Brunel knew that the tunnels had been dug by a creature called the shipworm. He found one in the wood and took out his magnifying glass to inspect it. Its body was soft, but its head was covered by two jagged shells with a pointed beak between them like a drill bit. The shipworm made its tunnel byscrapingits jagged shells in the wood. This turned the wood into powder, which the shipworm then ate. As itadvanced,it left behind a hard deposit that coated the walls of the tunnel.
